The heart of WoonHung lies in sustaining the skill of the craftspeople and their ability to provide for their families now, and in the future. When you choose WoonHung, you choose to support a community of skilled craftsmen. Many hands, and many lives are involved and affected by the decisions we make. WoonHung’s approach to sustainability looks not only to the choice and treatment of renewable materials, but also, the sustainability of livelihoods.
Each piece of every collection of WoonHung is lovingly handmade by skilled craftsmen from Cebu, Philippines. Each bead, seemingly machine-made with the perfect cut and colour, has gone through multiple hands and tireless hours. From washing, sorting, hand-dyeing, beading and polishing, WoonHung’s pieces are the result of traditional skills of cottage industries that have been passed on for generations.
WoonHung looks to maximize the potential of a material, and to increase its longevity and natural beauty through simple methods and tools employed by the makers of Cebu. This commitment to “no waste” has created a material-first approach for each of WoonHung’s designs. This requires a determination to find the best ways to showcase the beauty of each material, and working closely with the very people who live and breathe the environment and natural materials they are so intimately involved with.
